MY A/W UNI CLOTHING ESSENTIALS

With back to school creeping closer and closer, I'm in a position I've never been in before, I'm actually excited to return to 'school' after a long summer, because I am starting my first year of Uni in September! British summer has ditched us in a hurry, which means Autumn is arriving sooner than expected, and that only means one thing- WARDROBE UPDATE.

I've put together what I think will be my uni clothing essentials, (as I haven't actually been to Uni before, obviously) and the things that are on my wish list for Uni and my pending A/W wardrobe update.

COMFY V NECKS

Comfort is the running theme in this essentials list and v-necks are definitely my t-shirt of preference, they are super comfortable and a perfect base for layering in A/W. They also look  effortless when paired with the other items on this list. I love the ones featured above, as sometimes I'd opt for a plain t-shirt like the Burgundy Zara or Grey H&M, or a slogan top like the 'Pretty' Mango one featured above. 

JEANS / JEGGINGS

Jeans are a wardrobe essential and not just for uni! But when it comes to comfort finding the perfect pair of jeans can be key and this is often hard. Personally inUuni I know I'm going to lean away from jeans that are 100% denim and opt for something with a bit more stretch. My favourite jeans for this are definitely the Topshop Jamie's and I love the ripped knee look, but I've also included the black Joni's above as they are pretty comfy too and you can never go wrong with black jeans!

BOMBER / LEATHER JACKET

I couldn't decide whether to include a bomber or leather jacket above as I tend to wear both equally. Most people would argue that a black leather jacket is the one of the  most important pieces to have in your wardrobe, and I agree. But I like to go for bomber jackets when I want a really laid back look, and in lectures or when I'm running errands they will be a bit less restraining than leather jackets. I love the varsity feel of the Very bomber jacket above, if only it had a K, instead of A and could be purchased on a student budget!

FEDORA

OK, I have to admit that the word essential in this post has been misused, as I'm sure you'll live without taking a fedora to Uni, BUT in A/W fedoras can transform outfits and give you a hand when you're having a bad hair day. Camel is a must for my Autumn colour palette and if you are sick of wearing it on your coat (like me, sorry) you can opt for camel accessories like this Camel fedora shown above.

BACKPACKS

This is an item that I actually believe is up there with my most important. I've always been a handbag person, ever since year 7 I refused to carry a backpack to school and I'd always carry a handbag that probably didn't fit half of my stuff. After 7 years of experiencing annoying straps digging into one shoulder, and wet books that couldn't quite fit into my very impractically sized handbag, I've decided that I'm going to have to switch to a trusty backpack. I actually bought the white New Look backpack in the above a few days ago, luckily more and more shops have created backpacks that don't make you look like you about to go on a hike Mount Kilimanjaro.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST... BOOTS

Finally thi A/W essential is the perfect shoe to make sure you have for Uni. Flat Chelsea boots are sooooooo comfortable and go with just about any outfit. The ones featured above are Doc Martens from Union Jack Boots, the thick sole will mean that these are be perfect for all weather conditions and when it starts to get a bit colder they'll withstand the frost. Paired with a fedora, it makes any outfit look far dressier than it is.

GUEST POST- MAKING STATEMENTS

It is not always easy maintaining your carefully created personal style. Sure you look great, but do you look yourself? These are the questions we face when the going is the hardest, right after we wake up! Anybody can have a bad hair day, or simply a moment when they don’t really feel like dolling up. Thankfully, there are so many different variations of style, that you could always borrow an idea or two, for those special days. Stressed, depressed, but well dressed, that’s a motto to go by! Of course, you might be one of those boho fairies for whom getting ready is simply a state of mind. They look great in everything, because second-hand vintage always matches. It’s a bit harder for the crisp and clean girls. Anyways, here is a short list of incredibly stylish accessories to perk you up even when the morning coffee doesn’t (and there’s something for the preps, the bohemians, and all us mortals in between!)

Hats

Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes the Spring Break, wedding season and festivals every other weekend. With all that celebration it’s time to decorate your hair and head with something stylish and yet flirty.

No matter if you choose a flower headband (its popularity seems to be rising still), forehead band or a crown-like crystal headband, you will not be wrong. On the other hand, you can pick a fedora hat or a black floppy hat if you are going for a more sophisticated look.  

Rings

As far as your hands are concerned, you better watch out because the era of statement rings is here! There is something for everyone: great boho pieces with quartz and amethyst, big silver adjustable ones, the one with rubies and crystals...

You can choose to wear one if you’re opting for a glamorous air that day, or wear several in combination with many bracelets to get that boho look which is so popular every spring and summer.

Earrings and ear cuffs

Just in case you haven’t noticed so far, earrings have become one of the main statement pieces for girls all over the world. Fashion bloggers everywhere have been wearing big, sparkly, chandelier earrings which require no other detail to accompany them. Also, ear cuffs have come back from the grunge-inspired 90’s with new glow and a new message: look how glamorous we can look!

Combine either a dainty hoop or a full-on statement piece with some of your absolute favourite party dresses and you will be the star of the evening. And in addition, there are so many versions which don't require pierced ears at all that everyone can find their favourite.

Dark lips and nails

For all the lovers of dramatic makeup and vamp look out there – your time has finally come. Dark lips and dark nails are absolute hit this season and you will not make a mistake if you choose to wear them every day. Deep plum and marsala shades are especially popular, and go well with pale skin and dark sunglasses.

As you can see, it is all about being discreet and subtly drawing other people’s attention to yourself by using carefully selected details. No one will be able to draw their eyes from you if your appearance is striking and elegant at the same time. Be bold and combine styles in such way, that you feel good wearing them in the first place, because that will surely not be unnoticed.

WE'RE TALKING CHOCKER STRAPS AND BODY HARNESSES

I'll pass on inserting a picture of what comes to mind when I think of the title above, but this blogpost is not that! With Summer comes accessories, and accessories in their masses. Every year their seems to be a new one that I just want to sport 24/7, while walking through my town and just picturing I'm at Coachella. At the moment I've been loving choker straps and harnesses (trust me this isn't fifty shades inspired and I just had to point that out because the title might seem otherwise) these little things lie in that grey area in-between lingerie and accessories, but I'll definitely be sporting them.

After being sent this gorgeous handmade choker strap by the lovely Estelle from EstyLingerie I fell in love with all things strappy and elastic. I was so shocked how well made it was and good it looked on, as well as this it's adjustable so one size fits all! It's a very versatile product; it can transform an underwear set, or act as the perfect accessories for spring, with a plunge blouse or shirt. As well as this limited edition one from Estelle's collection here a few of my other pieces from her site (halter strap, body harness & black triple strap choker)

As well as Estelle's site I've been loving some girlies on Depop who have been making and selling some pretty awesome harnesses (it seems to be all the craze!), I think some of these will be perfect for a night out to give an outfit that extra umph!!

LOVE OR HATE- THE SEPTUM RING

As you can see from the little link above this is a faux septum ring, yes I have commitment issues and I am not brave enough to actually get a real one. If you know me you'll probably know that the only piercing I have is my firsts and I got those done before my memory even developed, probably like 7 months old. On top of that my pain threshold is next to nothing. Ok, I'm kind of drifting, back to the ring! These have been all over Instagram (especially the La Moda ones) with so many girls rocking them, even the likes of Rihanna and I mean who doesn't want to be one step closer to being RiRi?! I feel like septum rings are a really love hate trend, when my friends saw me wearing one I got an array off remarks from ''they're piff"- thanks Maddie ;) to "you look like a bull with a ring in your nose". I'm not sure at the moment how I feel about it but I reckon in Summer I'll be wearing it non stop. It'll definitely look better with halter necks and tennis skirts as opposed to coats and scarves in my opinion.

FRIDAY FINDS #1- Winter Accesories

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! Does it matter that I am a day late? I hope everyone had a great NYE, mine was definitely interesting to say the least. POLYVORE RECENTLY #1

Recently (as in the past five days) I have really gotten back into Polyvore, I always use it on and off,
like Tumblr, I go through periods of using it a lot and then not visiting it again for another 7 months.

'THERE'S A HOLE IN YOUR JEANS'

Hooray! I FINALLY got myself some ripped jeans! The bandwagon has been patiently waiting for the past few weeks for me jump on it and jump on it I did. I believe the phrase 'go hard or go home' is appropriate considering they do a gaping hole in my jeans, but I just love the look. These jeans are the Topshop Hayden's and I did do a bit of snipping and chopping here and there as they came with patches which I later removed. I love the baggy fit of them and I actually sized up but regardless they have a boyfriend fit and are a lot more low-waisted than many other Topshop jeans.

MEDIA COURSEWORK

I feel like I haven't done an outfit of the day in agesssss and they are one of my favourite posts to read and do (I blame my sister and how reluctant she is to take my outfit pictures). I'm just going to apologise that I don't have an actual full length picture of the outfit, my shoes were just some black Steve Madden's. 

For those of you who don't know I'm in Year 12 doing my AS's and Media is one of my subjects. For my coursework we basically had to create a mini marketing campaign for a girl band, which I was forced to act in. I didn't mind it to much, it was fun. Although I had to portray a character with this outfit these were all my clothes so obviously I would actually wear something like this, and I often do. I've had this skater skirt for almost two years now and unfortunately I think it's coming to the end of it's life in my wardrobe, it is unacceptably short.

IS PINK THE NEW BLACK?

This almost seems like an obscene question, pink has had its 'five minutes of fame' recently but you're probably thinking, "pink the new black? She must be carried away" and me being one of the biggest advocates for all black clothing going totally agrees. Pink being the new black is a bit of a stretch, although I would understand why one would think it is possible, pink has definitely had its spotlight over the past few months and I'm not sure whether it's going to dim down any time soon. 

I got this Pink Leather Jacket for a mere £30 and was absolutely chuffed (due to a lack of a better expression), when it comes to pink outerwear I'm not exactly lacking but I loved this alternative, pink take on the normal black leather jacket. The silver hardware just finishes it off making the jacket look a lot more expensive than it is. Answering the question in my title, no I don't think pink is the new black but with leather jackets it should be because this is so damn cute and extremely spring appropriate. As well as this jacket I picked up the simple grey dress seen in the picture and I've also ordered some things online so expect a haul soon! Oh and if you were wondering yes I have given up on my spending ban :(.

INSPIRATION | Ripped Jeans (+High Street Picks)

I have acquired a quite sudden and irrational obsession for overly (and by overly I mean extremely) ripped jeans. Would I be afraid to wear jeans that looked like they had been mauled by a hungry pitbull? Quite frankly no. I don't really know when I began to love the look of such jeans but it came around the same time I actually began to consider wearing jeans that weren't skinny, a few months ago I would have shunned the thought. Street style and probably Tumblr is to blame and I am going to admit I am extremely susceptible to trends, ripped jeans being one of them. With spring almost here (I say almost because I live in England and five minutes ago it was hailing) we can all brave bearing a bit more skin without the fear of goosebumps invading. With all this raving I have been doing since I am on a spending I can't go out and indulge in this trend :'( but I am looking from a far and here are my high street picks:
